Borda, Luis

image of Borda, Luis Battlefield of Passion

Necessities and conventions, freedom and longing. All that is combined and symbolised by the Tango in a fiery way. It’s more than just a dance between man and woman, it’s the very relation: Surrender and resistance, proximity and distance, sensousness and eroticism. Though, in the past, the Tango was denounced as too obscene and scandalous, today it is considered as an elegant evening activity causing even crowded dancing lessons. That’s not surprising because it is a popular method to subliminally strengthen the emotional picture. Frequently, the tango itself serves as the linchpin of many movies: 12 Tangos, The last Tango, Not Here To Be Loved, The Tango Lesson, and so on. For the first movie mentioned, no less than Luis Borda, the most famous representative and renovator of Tango Nuevo, was consulted and allowed to compose the soundtrack. You cannot stir the blood with more passion.
